CAN I GET AN ORIGINAL FANTOM
VACUUM ANYMORE (FURY, CYCLONE XT, THUNDER, LIGHTNING)? |
| |
The original
Fantom Technologies, Inc. manufacturer went out of business
in October 2001. The Euro-Pro Corporation bought the 'Fantom'
naming rights that are put on products made in China which are
not the same as the original Fantom vacuums made in Canada.
The original Fantom technology was sold to a company which now
sells products with the brand name Westinghouse. We do sell
Westinghouse models that are the closest replacements for the
original Fantom vacuums (see below). |

WHY DOES MY FANTOM CYCLONE
XT ROLLER BRUSH LOOSE POWER? |
| |
The symptom of the roller
brush having intermittent movement (motor cutting in and out,
in the powerhead) is most likely due to a bad circuit board.
Reason could have come from pulling debris off the roller brush
or turning the roller brush by hand while the vacuum was off. |

I DON'T SEE THE FANTOM DOMESTIC
ON THIS LIST? |
 |
The Fantom Domestic was retired in the mid
80's. The Domestic was originally sold as Iona Domestic then
later became the Fantom Domestic. This was for commercial purposes
and phased out as the earlier Fantom Thunder (prior to 1995)
and Fantom Fury models came out. For all Fantom Domestic belt
questions please call for quotes. |

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT
ON THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? |
 |

|
- Unplug the machine.
- From the front of the machine, remove the collection
bin.
- Facing the back of your vacuum, remove each of the
Philips head screws located above each of the rear
wheels. (Figure 1)
- To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the
two screw holes in the back of the machine. Push forward
and up on the screw holes to disengage the 3 cover
locking tabs. Put the cover off to one side, and go
to the front of the machine. (Figure 2)
- Check the drive arm for any black streaks which
indicate residual rubber from the last belt. The drive
arm is located on the right side of the motor. The
easiest way to remove any residual rubber is with
some nail polish remover on a rag or with steel wool.
- To attach a new belt, remove the brush from the
base of the machine by pulling up straight up with
two hands.
- Take the new belt and hook it over the steel drive
arm. Pull back on the belt slightly, to create some
tension.
- Put the brush inside the belt loop so that the track
for the belt is aligned with the belt itself.
- Replace the brush by aligning the metal end so the
points face downward. (Figure 3)
- Rotate the brush by hand to check that the belt
is running freely and easily in its designated space
between the bristle.
- Replace the cover by placing the nose in first.
Once in place fasten with the two cover screws and
then replace the collection bin.

HOW DO I REMOVE A BLOCKAGE
IN THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? |
 |

|
If your Fantom® vacuum shuts itself
off and the dirt in the Collection Bin stops swirling,
or if you experience a loss of suction power, it may
be due to a blockage in an air passage.
- Unplug the machine.
- If the overload protection system has shut the machine
down, press the reset button located on the back above
the rear wheels.
- Lay the machine down on its front face with the
rear of the base facing up.
- Rotate the inspection plate knob out of the locked
position and then swing the rear inspection plate
away from the rear of the machine.
- Look up into the air passageway and if there is
a blockage, clean it out. Close the rear inspection
plate and pivot the inspection plate knob back into
the locked position.
- Press the reset button if the overload protection
system has again shut the machine down.
If you do not find any blockage in this area, and/or
the machine shuts itself off or the loss of suction
persists, a more detailed inspection will be necessary
as follows:
- Unplug the machine.
- Grasp and pull the tab on the fluff trap plug to
open and expose the fluff cleanout opening. Remove
all the fluff from this screened area then close the
plug and ensure that it is fully assembled.
- Press in the reset button if the overload protection
system has once again shut down.
- Place the machine in its upright storage position.
- Remove the collection bin and check for any dirt
or lint that may have accumulated in the cyclone entrance.
(Figure 3)
- Remove each of the Philips head screws located above
each of the rear wheels.
- To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the
two screw holes in the back of the machine. Then push
forward and up in the screw holes to disengage the
3 cover locking tabs. (Figure 4)
- Remove any accumulated dirt or threads from the
brush and/or remove any large objects from this area
that may have jammed the brush. Also, check that the
rotary valve inlet is not clogged with dirt or objects.
(Figure 5)
- Check the belt to be sure that is in good condition.
A stretched or faulty belt will prevent the machine
from operating properly.
- Replace the base cover by placing the nose in first.
Once in place fasten with the two cover screws.
If the machine still does not start or if you still
experience a loss of suction power, then take it to
your local vacuum service center for assistance..
